Winner of 1961 flight comparative tests against L-29 «Delfin» as advanced trainer for Soviet Air Forces, the Yak-30 was eventually left over for political reasons amidst a controversy. This full-metal jet, probably the best ever built in its category, combined advanced aerobatics capabilities with very healthy flying and stunningly optimised design. Introducing a popular RU19-300 engine (Antonov-24, -26), it has a pressurized cabin and an ejection seat. Only 4 serial aircraft were ever produced of which only one remains to date.
