Development of the pre-war AIR-6, this rugged and particularly easy to fly STOL aircraft was introduced in 1946, initially as a two-seater with M11FR 160 hp engine, tubular structure with linen covering. Particularly appreciated by Stalin who flew in it out of his datcha in Yalta, there were 4420 built of R,M,A modifications in Russia, Poland and China. Having served in virtually every field of utility aviation and in every climatic zone, there are a few dozens of this "Soviet Cessna" remaining to date.
